The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially released the timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

According to the commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections are slated for February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will take place on March 6, 2027.

This announcement was made by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, during a news conference in Abuja on Friday.

INEC had earlier indicated on February 4 that, despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly, the commission had finalized the election timetable and schedule of activities.

While submissions have been made to the National Assembly, Prof. Amupitan acknowledged that certain items in the schedule may be affected by the timing of the Act’s approval.

Under the leadership of former INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the commission had previously established general election dates spanning the next four decades to minimize voter uncertainty and streamline logistical planning for all stakeholders.

Further details are expected to be released in due course.
