Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has charged pilgrims from Rivers State embarking on this year’s Hajj not to engage in acts that will bring the state and the country to disrepute, but be great ambassadors.

Governor Fubara also emphasized that the pilgrims should engage in special prayers that will bring blessings and development to the country, stating that the pilgrims were privileged to embark on the holy journey.

The Governor gave the charge while addressing the pilgrims in preparation for their airlift at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa on Tuesday.

“I wish you well and also say you’re privileged to embark on this holy journey. What you owe the country and State is prayers for a better country and better state. We believe strongly that you’re going to be good ambassadors to us. You will not do anything to bring any form of shame to us, so I want to join the Hajj Commission and every one that has supported in one way or the other to say journey mercy. Come back with blessings that will bring development and growth to our dear country.”

The Governor disclosed that knowing pilgrims are having challenges with their Basic Travel Allowances (BTA) therefore he has provided additional US $300 to each pilgrim apart from their $420, taking the BTA to US$ 720 for each pilgrim whether under public or private quota. He said his wish for them is to carry out their religious obligations conveniently and to have the capacity to carry out their hadaya rite with ease.

He said this on Monday as he reacted to the airstrike carried out by the Nigerian Air Force airstrike in Jilli, Borno State, over the weekend. Speaking after an expanded security meeting in Kaduna with the state governor and heads of security agencies, Musa said the operation sends a clear message to those collaborating with terrorist groups. He stressed that anyone found supporting insurgents would face the same consequences as the perpetrators. “A friend of a thief is a thief,” he said, warning civilians against associating with or providing any form of assistance to terrorists. Musa urged residents to steer clear of areas known to be used by insurgents, noting that proximity or collaboration could have grave consequences. The airstrike, carried out near the village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area, targeted what the military described as an ISWAP enclave and logistics hub. According to the Nigerian Air Force, the operation was intelligence-driven and aimed at neutralising terror elements and destroying their equipment. However, reports have emerged alleging that the strike may have affected a weekly market in the area, with civilians, including cross-border traders, reportedly among casualties. Musa, however, maintained that the strike should serve as a strong warning to those aiding insurgent activities, reaffirming the military’s resolve to intensify operations against terrorist networks. Air Component of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, conducted a precision air strike on a known terrorist enclave and logistics hub located near the abandoned village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State. Giving an update on the airstrike, the Nigerian Army in a post on its official X handle said, “The successful strike, executed on 11 April 2026, followed sustained intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions over the Bindul–Jilli axis, an area long identified as a major terrorist movement corridor and convergence point for Islamic State West Africa Province terrorists and their collaborators.”

On his part, the Sole Administrator, Rivers State Muslim Pilgrims Board, Alhaji Diepriye Abdulrasaq commended Governor Fubara for his kind gesture to sponsor the pilgrims to this year’s Hajj, noting that without God and the Governor’s fatherly support the exercise would not have been successful.

He said the Muslim community in Rivers State were excited about the priority attention the Governor Fubara has given to the welfare of Muslims in the state since his assumption of office, and assured that Muslims will continue to be law abiding citizens and pray for Rivers State as a mark of gratitude for the Governor’s goodwill.

According to the Sole Administrator, this year’s Pilgrim consist of 45 state sponsored persons, while 5 are self sponsored.

Alhaji Abdulrasaq said Governor Fubara remains the first governor in the country to pay the required funds for the Rivers State contingents which has given them pride of place as they journey to the holy land, and promised to pray for him and the State.

Meanwhile Governor Siminalayi Fubara made a stop over on his way back from the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at the Obiri Ikwerre interchange where there was a gas tanker accident and explosion that blocked access in that axis. He was briefed on the evacuation procedure which will take 12 hours.
