The Federal Government has launched a National Compendium on the Economic and Tourism Profiles of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing it as a strategic tool for attracting investment, creating jobs, promoting tourism and driving economic development across the country.

Speaking at the Sub-National Government Economic and Tourism Information Roundtable and the official unveiling of the publication in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the compendium would help showcase the economic strengths and tourism potential of states to local and international investors.

According to the minister, every state possesses unique assets in sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals, manufacturing, technology, trade, services, cultural and creative industries, as well as tourism, which can be leveraged to stimulate economic growth when properly documented and promoted.

“Every state has unique assets in agriculture, solid minerals, cultural and creative industries, historic sites, natural attractions, technology, manufacturing, trade and services. Properly documented and promoted, these assets can attract investment, create jobs and generate revenue that supports inclusive national development,” he said.

Idris described the publication as more than a reference document, noting that it serves as an investment guide, tourism promotion tool and a platform for projecting the economic potential of Nigeria’s sub-national governments to the global community.

He said the initiative aligns with the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to promote Nigeria’s image, support national development and provide credible information about opportunities available across the country.

The minister noted that the launch comes at a time when the Federal Government is implementing economic reforms aimed at strengthening investor confidence, expanding economic opportunities and positioning Nigeria for sustainable growth.

“By providing credible and accessible information on the economic and tourism assets of our states, the compendium complements ongoing reforms and serves as a practical tool for unlocking sub-national development,” he stated.

He urged state governments, investors, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and the private sector to take advantage of the publication in promoting investment and economic activities across Nigeria.

Describing the roundtable as a call to action, Idris challenged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and focus on tangible outcomes that would translate the nation’s vast economic potential into measurable development.

“This roundtable is a call to action. It is an invitation to move from potential to prosperity, from documentation to implementation, and from discussion to investment, collaboration and measurable development outcomes,” he said.

The minister commended the Nigerian Press Council for spearheading the initiative and praised its Executive Secretary, Dr Dili Ezughah, for providing leadership that ensured the successful delivery of the project.

The event also featured the formal presentation of the compendium, which documents the economic and tourism profiles of all states and the FCT.

Among dignitaries at the event were Dr Tope Fasua, who represented Vice President Kashim Shettima; the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule; and the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad.
