The Media Office of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, has clarified that the ECN boss was not arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), contrary to widespread speculations circulating across some media platforms.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, the media office explained that Dr. Mustapha merely honoured an invitation extended to him by the anti-graft agency in line with due process and his respect for constituted authorities.
According to the statement, “It is important to clarify that he was not arrested, but attended the engagement voluntarily as a responsible public servant committed to transparency and accountability.”
The statement further urged supporters, associates, stakeholders, and members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding while relevant authorities continue with their constitutional responsibilities.
The media office also stressed that the issues currently in the public domain remain allegations subject to investigation and due legal process, noting that every individual is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise by a competent court of law.
“We strongly appeal to the public to avoid speculation, misinformation, sensational commentary, and the circulation of unverified claims that may distort facts, prejudice ongoing processes, or create unnecessary tension,” the statement added.
The DG’s media office highlighted Dr. Mustapha’s contributions to public service and national development over the years, insisting that all parties should allow lawful and transparent institutional processes to take their course.
It further called on stakeholders, well-wishers, and members of the public to maintain decorum, exercise restraint in public commentary, and uphold peace and national stability while the matter is being addressed by the appropriate authorities
