The confusion over the leadership of Labour Party, (LP)continued on Thursday as a Court of Appeal in Owerri, Imo State removed Julius Abure as the National chairman of the party.

The appellate court consequently recognized Lamidi Apapa as the National Chairman of the Labour Party and the one the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC should deal with in terms of candidates of the party for the coming Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections among others.

Consequently, the court also ordered INEC to immediately recognise and publish the names of the candidates produced by the Apapa-led National Working Committee in Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi states for the governorship election.

The court annulled the candidature of Senator Athan Achonu for the governorship of Imo State and others produced for the other states by the Abure-led LP faction.

The ruling was coming against the judgment of Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City on 14 April which affirmed Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

Also, a State High Court sitting in Edo had also dismissed the notice of suspension of Abure by some members of Labour Party at his ward in Edo State.

Reacting however, the Labour Party (LP),has dismissed claims that its party leadership, led by Julius Abure, has been sacked by the Appeal Court.

Instead, the LP said it was another devastating blow for the Lamidi Apapa-led faction as the Court of Appeal in Owerri dismissed the appeal filed by one Mr Basil Maduka, who it said is contending for the Labour Party governorship candidacy for Imo State.

The party therefore, called on members, supporters and the general public to distance themselves from what it described as “falling and compromised members of the party”, who it said have since been shoved out of the party.

The party in a statement issued on Thursday by the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, claimed that Apapa’s camp had misinformed the public by twisting the judgement of the appellate court.
