A Continental Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Joseph Odesola, has urged Nigerians not to pressure the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to speak against President Bola Tinubu.

Odesola said Adeboye would address Nigeria’s political and economic situation when he believes it is the appropriate time, stressing that a religious leader should not be compelled to make statements simply because the public expects them.

He said some Nigerians appeared to have already written a script for Adeboye, expecting him to condemn or attack the Tinubu administration. Odesola argued that Adeboye should instead speak from conviction, prayer and spiritual responsibility.

The RCCG overseer also maintained that the church should be capable of speaking truth to power without becoming a political opposition platform or mouthpiece for any political camp.

He urged Nigerians to allow Adeboye to pray, listen and discern before making any public pronouncement, saying his decision not to say what people expect should not automatically be interpreted as a failure of leadership.
