Globally, money is a symbol of power, hope and defense. Money makes the difference between a poor man and a rich man. Money comes with class, aesthetics, a sense of confidence and protection. Money is the shock-absorber  to every nonsense in the contemporary world.

In Africa, especially, in Nigeria, money is everything! The capacity of a man is being measured by how much money he has.  Apparently, money makes the difference. It protects the rich and relegates the poor. It creates existential imbalance.

In practical sense, money insulates the rich with excuses for their wrongdoings while the poor are incessantly ridiculed even with cogent excuses. Excuses sound sweet in the mouth of the rich and annoying and unacceptable in the poor man’s mouth. As a matter of fact, to be poor is an offence by men, and it reflects in the ways they are being treated. Quite frankly, the buzz of the CHIVIDO glamorous marriage ceremony is tied to money and fame. The ceremony held social media spaces are agog with frenzy and pictorial representations littered in their multiplicity.

Eventually, it was the climax of the love relationship between David Adeleke,  a Nigerian A-list musician and his partner, Chioma Avril Rowland. In this article, Davido and Chioma’s love relationship will be used as a subject matter to buttress how money shields and protects the rich  in the contemporary black world.

It is no news that Davido has been in a relationship with Chioma for a couple of years now, although with kaleidoscopic pattern, going  on and off. The love birds officially got married yesterday, 25th June, 2024 in a glamorous event that held the Nigerian social media space spellbound. Prior to the legalization of their conjugal monogamy, Davido has been in the news repeatedly for having intimate affairs with different ladies even while with Chioma.

Some of the the ladies who accused Davido came out with both audio and video evidences to substantiate their claims. In 2023, it was alleged that he impregnated a lady in the United States. There has been a proliferation of different news in recent times with regards to the above.

But these are not the issues as every man has their baggage, and no one feigns completely righteous. The main issue however is the blind eyes given to Davido’s shortcomings and alleged promiscuous life style. The celebration. The pontification. A seemingly status of sainthood and the sudden purification of his alleged sins by the bandwagon of some Nigerian women became an amazement to behold, although worrisome and bizarre.

The news of Davido’s marriage to Chioma has bestowed a sense of elation to  a lot of Nigerian women; of course, this includes the contingent of vociferous and bland ‘Nigerian feminists.’ I’m shocked to see a lot of Nigerian women in the category of ” a queen and more” tapping and wishing with reckless abandon.

Even ladies who claim to have ‘steeze’ and composure were all tapping, praying and wishing for their own Davido who will cheat on them repeatedly and then placate the with money and material things as alleged; they obviously envy Chioma’s position. This is a marriage our dear women would have criticized using the accusation of promiscuity on the man’s part as an excuse. But in this case, everything changed. Reason being that it’s Davido, a billionaire musician. These are the same Nigerian ladies who have vilified poor men and criticize them incessantly as cheats. I mean poor and average men who don’t have a miscellany of cheating scandals as Davido. But they were ridiculed, harshly criticized, and even parted ways with in some instances.

These are the same ladies who have consistently advised their friends and sisters to leave their poor male partners who cheated on them. Same women who at the mention of the fact that a poor man cheats, they will remember how dangerous HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are, and how an innocent woman can easily contact them.

The big question is: What really changed in Davido’s case?

Absolutely, nothing; rather than the heavy presence of money. These women bowed to the supremacy of money and swallowed their own words against cheating. The hypocrisy of the majority of Nigerian women especially the single ones sometimes baffles me.

By and large, Davido’s marriage to Chioma comes with a big lesson to all men. The money lesson! It gives more credence to the fact that money makes the difference. Money purifies, cleanses and makes a man attractive in all corners regardless of his wrongdoings. When the Holy Bible says in Ecclesiastes 10:19 that money answereth all things, it is indeed a validating reality that favours the rich and makes them the envy of many Nigerian women.

Moreso, another lesson and revelation gotten from Davido’s marriage to Chioma as it concerns Nigerian women, is that in the presence of money, I mean plenty of money, most Nigerians women will forget and abandon the standards they once preached about. Evidently, most Nigerian women only have standards when a poor man is involved. The reverse is the case with a rich man.

They practically send their acclaimed standards to oblivion once a rich man is in the picture. Conspicuously, it is a crime to be a poor man in this part of the world.

The Regina Daniel’s Scenario

The same Nigerian women, feminists inclusive, who preached against early marriage. I mean people who had consistently advocated for the girl child to get to at least 25 years of age before considering marriage, are the same people who are currently using Regina Daniel, a young Nigerian actress who got married before the age of 20,  to billionaire Ned Nwoko, a man old enough to be his grandfather, as a marital example to other young ladies. I am talking about an assemblage of women who had repeatedly said ‘No’ to polygamy abinitio. Today, they are celebrating Regina’s marriage to Ned Nwoko as a third wife.  Suddenly, they see nothing wrong with it. Their stance against polygamy has conveniently changed because a billionaire is involved. Indeed, money answereth all things.

Going forward, as a man I have learnt not to take what some Nigerian ladies say seriously. This is simply because they shift goalposts at the slightest convenience. This truth is bitter but it must be said, a lot of Nigerian women will take all the bullshits they said they won’t take once money is involved.

They would tell you even in marriage they can’t submit to a man. It’s not true; the truth is, they can’t submit to a poor man. Most Nigerian women make rules that are only applicable when they meet a poor man. The same women give rich men a blank cheque over their lives. As I have always argued, with maximum comfort, almost every woman will forget about the shortcomings of a man.

Even if Davido cheats on Chioma in their marriage. She will never nurse the thought of leaving because the luxurious lifestyle, covers every shortcoming. Ned Nwoko can also cheat.  But Regina will never leave. Even in relationships, most ladies don’t leave their cheating male partners who are very rich. The rules and standards are for poor men.

Sadly, in our clime, when you are poor, you are guilty of every offence. I read online where someone said in Nigeria, make money before you make mistakes. And I completely agree. With money you are celebrated even in your mistakes. As a man, the only Being who judges your wrongdoing when you are rich, is God. No one judges a wealthy man harshly.

You have thousands of reasons to make money as a man who is alive. But as a man who is in Nigeria, you have  millions of reasons to make money. Money can be the root of all evils, but the same money answereth all things. And do not forget, rules set by women are for poor men. No woman sets rules for a billionaire boyfriend or husband.
