Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State on Wednesday dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC), relieving all commissioners and the Chief of Staff of their duties.

The announcement was made in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.

According to Kula, the governor informed the council of the dissolution at the end of the 12th SEC meeting for 2025.

He said the governor directed all commissioners to hand over to the permanent secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.

Governor Alia expressed appreciation to the former commissioners for their service over the past two years.

He encouraged those who may not be reappointed to remain committed to the party, noting that their exit provides an opportunity for others to contribute to the state’s development.

Meanwhile, the governor has approved the immediate appointment of Moses Atagher, a legal practitioner, as the new Chief of Staff, replacing Paul Biam.

Atagher is a former two-term Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state. He also previously served as acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing commissioners, the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Bemsen Mnyim, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve.
