Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo has warned that implementing another total lockdown in the country would be counterproductive despite the rising number of coronavirus cases.

COVID-19 cases in Nigeria rose to 4,151 while total fatalities and discharged cases now stand at 128 and 745 respectively.

The Presidential Task Force PTF on COVID19 had, days ago, hinted that the government could be forced to impose another lockdown to further contain the spread of the pandemic.

Meridian Spy reported yesterday Saturday the Lagos Sate Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the state may experience another lockdown if the citizens remain non-compliant to safety guidelines to help prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.

The governor expressed his disappointment to see crowd at banks and markets across the state flouting the guidelines when the lockdown was eased, despite the massive advocacy against such actions. “We will be forced to take the painful decision of bringing the state under lockdown if it remains clear that Lagosians are determined to flout the rules,” he added.

However, Keyamo noted his disapproval of such decision via his official Twitter handle on Sunday.

He tweeted: “My personal view is that another total lockdown would be counterproductive. Before defeating the virus, we must learn to live with it all around us & practice the skills of avoiding it like a landmine. Practice makes perfect. We cannot perfect those skills by locking ourselves up.”
