The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has said the party is yet to receive any resignation letter from Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki who earlier announced his exit from the party.
Spokesperson of the APC, Lanre Issa-Onilu stated this on Tuesday when asked by newsmen to comment on the exit of the Edo State Governor.
“The party has no record of the reported defection of Governor Godwin Obaseki from the Progressive party,” said Issa-Onilu.
“We cannot comment at this moment on media reports suggesting the Edo governor or anyone else has left our great party.”
Shortly after meeting the President’s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari at the Presidential Villa, Obaseki announced his formal resignation from the APC.
“I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressives Congress (@OfficialAPCNg) after meeting with the CoS to @MBuhari,” he tweeted on Tuesday.
“We shall continue the battle to protect the interest of Edo people and sustain good governance in the state.”
Reacting, spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan commended the governor for his action.
“I just spoke with @GovernorObaseki. I commended his bold and courageous decision to abandon the fizzling Congress. The time has come for all democrats to rally together and save our nation from the failures @OfficialAPCNg,” Ologbondiyan tweeted after the announcement.
