Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has expressed confidence that Seyi Tinubu could help bring about meaningful changes in Nigerian football amid the ongoing crisis in the administration of the sport.
Martins made the remarks while speaking on the ObiOne Podcast, where he discussed the challenges facing Nigerian football and the need for younger leadership capable of understanding both the game and the system.
The former Inter Milan and Newcastle United forward said Nigerian football needs a young person who understands the aspirations of Nigerians and can help address some of the problems confronting the sport.
Martins specifically mentioned Seyi Tinubu, saying he believes the President’s son has the potential to contribute to changing the situation if he chooses to get involved.
The former international also noted that Seyi Tinubu is not currently the president of the Nigeria Football Federation, while suggesting that he has already been making efforts in his own capacity.
His comments come amid significant upheaval in Nigerian football administration following the resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and other senior officials.
The crisis has also been compounded by disappointing performances from Nigeria’s national teams, including the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Martins’ remarks have therefore added Seyi Tinubu’s name to the conversation about the future leadership and direction of Nigerian football.
However, the former striker’s comments represent his personal view and do not amount to an announcement that Seyi Tinubu has been selected or appointed to lead the NFF.
The development comes as stakeholders continue to call for reforms that could improve football administration, strengthen the national teams and create a more sustainable structure for the development of Nigerian football.
