The Presidency has once again maintained that only 10 students of Government Science Secondary School, in Kankara local government area (LGA) of Katsina were abducted by gunmen.
Some unknown gunmen believed to be bandits had Friday stormed the school, reportedly abducting at least 300 students while others escaped.
Aminu Masari, Katsina State Governor, confirmed on Sunday that the number of students who were kidnapped by the gunmen were
“Based on the available records, we are still searching for 333 students through either the forest or their parents to ascertain the actual number that have been kidnapped,” Governor Masari said.
However, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, on Sunday, countered the Katsina Governor, stating that only 10 students were with the bandits.
“Only 10 students were remaining in the hands of the gunmen according to their colleagues who escaped from the gunmen,” Shehu told BBC.
“We are still counting because more are coming out from the forest, and we are calling those parents that have phone numbers to find out whether or not their children have gone back home.”
However, in a series of tweets on Monday, the Presidential Spokesperson maintained that “some of the returning students debriefed by the military disclosed that 10 of their colleagues were taken by the bandits”.

“Of course this is different from saying that all the others had been been accounted for.
“The forests and neighboring villages are being searched and parents are being contacted for information about their children.”
