At least seven individuals were killed by suspected Fulani bandits in the Farin Lamba community of Jos South Local Government Area in Plateau State on Sunday night.

Meridian Spy reports that the tragedy occurred just 24 hours after the Saturday night killings of 12 individuals in Mangu Local Government Area.

The attack was confirmed on Monday by Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association.

Tengwong revealed that the assailants arrived in a vehicle at approximately 10:30 pm and callously opened fire on seven vigilant youths stationed near the roadside to safeguard the community.

Tengwong stated, “It is with deep sorrow that we report the tragic loss of seven young, vibrant individuals last night at the Farin Lamba junction. The attackers, arriving in a car, mercilessly unleashed gunfire on the unsuspecting youths.”

Captain James Oya, the Media Information Officer of Operation Safe Haven, also confirmed the attacks.

He mentioned that their officers, along with the newly appointed Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN (COPSH) and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Abdulsalami Abubakar, were already present in Mangu Local Government.

Captain Oya assured the public that the military is committed to its utmost efforts in reestablishing peace in the state.

It is worth noting that General Abdulsalami assumed command as the COPSH and GOC of the 3rd Division NA on July 8, 2023. Shortly after, he visited the affected area on Sunday, July 9, to personally assess the situation.
