President Muhammadu Buhari has charged security agencies to do more to end violence in the country.

President Buhari gave the charge in reaction to the death of Philip Shekwo, Nasarawa State All Progressive Congress (APC) chairman, who was abducted by unknown gunmen from his residence in Lafia, the state capital, on Saturday and later found dead on Sunday.

Morning the death of Shekwo, the President through his Media Aide, Garba Shehu, described him as “kind and jovial”, noting that the late chairman’s contribution towards strengthening the party would not be forgotten.

Buhari added that the investigation into the killing would reveal if it “was an assassination or kidnapping-related murder.”

“I strongly condemn the killing of Philip Shekwo. He was kind and jovial,” Shehu quoted President Buhari to have said.

“His contribution towards strengthening the party in Nasarawa State will not be forgotten. May his soul Rest in Peace.”

On his part, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa said the killers of the deceased APC state chairman will be hunted in accordance with the law.

“We received with great shock and bewilderment the killing of the Nasarawa State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Philip Tatari Shekwo, in the hands of yet to be identified gunmen who forcefully gained entrance into his residence last night,” Governor Sule noted in a statement by Ibrahim Addra, his press secretary.

“My prayers and thoughts go to the family of the late Shekwo. He was a great husband, a statesman, peaceful gentleman and loyal party man.

“I will like to assure all that the perpetrators of this dastard act will not go scot-free. Investigations have already commenced by our security agencies who will do all it takes to hunt down these criminals and bring them to justice.”
