Less than 24 hours after Agboola Ajayi, Ondo State Deputy Governor, resigned membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), thousands of its members have defected to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The Punch reports the ex-ZLP members declared support for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who is the APC candidate in the October 10 governorship election.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/ North West Federal Constituency of the state, who led the defectors to the governor, said the performance of Akeredolu across all sectors had made his re-election a state wide project.
“Governor Akeredolu good deeds are everywhere in terms of education, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, industrialisation, human capital development, service delivery, welfare of workers,” Tunji-Ojo said.
Also, Mr. Femi Ikoyi, a leader of the defectors, assured the governor of the desire of the group to add significant value to his re-election as Governor of Ondo State.
This development is being seen as a big blow to the Deputy Governor who is looking to test his popularity among the people in the state by throwing his hart into the governorship contest via the ZLP.
But Mr Felix Olatunde, the Publicity Secretary of the ZLP, said those people that left the party for the APC had left the ZLP a long time ago.
