The return of Adams Oshiomhole to his position as national chairman of the ruling All progressive Congress (APC) suffered a setback after the chairman of the APC in ward 10, Etsako west local government of Edo state, Oshawo Stephen insisted that he remained suspended as a member of the party.
Oshiomhole was suspended from his ward in November, 2019 over his disagreement with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
It was on this basis that a High Court suspended the former Edo governor as national chairman of the party and was recently upheld by the Court of Appeal.
MERIDIAN SPY reported Saturday some seventeen out of 26 members of the executive committee of the ward had signed a resolution lifting Oshiomhole’s suspension , which could have eased his return to his position.
However, in a statement on Saturday, Oshawo rejected the action of those who signed the resolution, insisting that Oshiomhole still remains suspended as a member of the party.
He said the ward executives who were elected into office in 2018 remained intact and had not been displaced by anybody.
“The suspension of comrade Adams Oshiomhole by the ward executives remains valid,” he said.
“We stand by our decision and have no reservation on the action as it is in the best interest of the party. The ward executives as well as our counterparts at the Etsako west local government level stand by the suspension of comrade Oshiomhole for his divisive role in the crisis rocking the APC in Edo state.”
