At least 70 people have been reportedly killed and village arsoned by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Faduma Koloram village, Gubio local government area of Borno State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, when the insurgent invaded the village in gun trucks and motorcycles and carted away many cattle.
A source revealed that the boko haram fighters got into the village around 12:15pm and the first place they attacked was Zowo ward at Faduma Koloram.
“They accused the people there of spying on them and vowed to teach them lessons. Virtually all the houses in the community was torched,” the source added.
He said when some persons who managed to escape returned to the village hours later, they met their houses in ruins.
This is the second attack witnessed in Borno communities in the last 24 hours, as Nigeria military continues its efforts in combating the insurgents.
Recently, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai said, after a visit to President, Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, troops in the North East have killed 1,429 Boko Haram terrorists and arrested 166 informants in two months.
“The fight is still ongoing and over 1,429 of this Boko Haram terrorists have been neutralised and we have arrested over 166 Boko haram terrorists informants, their spies, couriers on logistics and their coordinators in the villages, the towns and even the forest,’ said Buratai.
He added, “we will continue to deal with the situation, not only in the north-east but all other parts of the country.”
