Security Joint Team Foils Kidnapping Plot in Anambra, Arrests 2 Suspects
A joint security operation in Anambra State has resulted in the arrest of two armed suspects and the recovery of one automatic pump-action gun and two motorcycles.
The operation, codenamed “Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping,” was carried out by a team of police operatives and vigilantes on patrol along the Onitsha-Owerri Road in Uli on April 19, 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects, identified as Chigozie Johnson and Umuerima Oguta, both males aged between 30-32 years, were arrested after a gun duel with the security team.
“The suspects confessed to being among members of the criminal gang and were on an evil mission before they were arrested,” Ikenga stated.
During the operation, the security team also discovered bloodstains in a nearby bush, indicating that some of the gang members escaped with bullet wounds.
In light of this, the Anambra State Police Command has urged all hospital proprietors to report any individuals presented with bullet wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station.
As Ikenga noted, “This measure is critical to the ongoing effort to apprehend the fleeing suspects and prevent further escalation of criminal activities in the State.”
The police command remains committed to maintaining security dominance through sustained patrols and targeted operations.
The operation is part of the ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
“The police command’s proactive approach has yielded positive results, ans the community is encouraged to continue supporting the security agencies in their efforts to keep Anambra safe”,he added.
