Legendary Nigeria Reggae singer and guitarist, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek has passed away at 71.
MERIDIAN SPY gathered the entertainer died in a hospital in New York on Monday around 5:45pm after a prolonged illness but the cause is unknown at the moment.
“Legendary musician, Mr. Majek Fashek has passed on today in New York City. Majek Fashek was a talented man from my home town Benin City, Edo State. RIP,” Joy Tongo, former manager to Nigerian female wrap artist, Cynthia Morgan, confirmed in an instagram post.
In a short video also, Fashek’s manager, Omenka Uzoma confirmed his death and called for celebration for the music icon’s achievements. In an Instagram post early Tuesday, Uzoma said Fashek “has gone to be with the LORD his Maker.”
The deceased entertainer was best known in his home country for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”.
