The office of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Isialangwa South Local Government Area in Abia State has been set ablaze, MERIDIAN SPY reports.
Available information on our news desk has it that the incident was carried out by some unknown hoodlums in the Local Government Area.
The hoodlums were said to have stormed the INEC office and set it ablaze around 2 am on Sunday morning without any prior knowledge of the people in the neighborhood.
Swift measures were, however, taken by youths in the neighborhood who quickly mobilised to extinguish the inferno; and as well alerted the police who assisted them in managing the situation. MERIDIAN SPY reliably gathered that the inferno destroyed various useful materials in the office, of which important electoral materials and permanent voter cards, were among.
It would be recalled that INEC office in the same Local Government Area was burnt down during the 2015 governorship election in the state in the same manner.
Also, in the build-up to the governorship legal battle in 2015 in the State, a similar incident occured in Obingwa Local Government Area by thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the State, where the INEC office was also set ablaze.
