The Kebbi State Police Command has killed one suspected bandit, arrested three others, and rescued four kidnapped victims in coordinated operations across Maiyama and Shanga Local Government Areas of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the operations were carried out following separate bandit attacks on Botoro Gadi in Maiyama LGA and Kwari village in Shanga LGA.
According to him, the first incident occurred when eight armed men invaded the residence of one Alhaji Sani at Botoro Gadi, Mungadi area, abducting two residents identified as Muhafi Sani and Shamsiya Aliyu.
“Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Maiyama swiftly led a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene. They pursued the attackers and engaged them in a gun duel, resulting in the death of one suspected kidnapper,” Abubakar said.
He added that a dane gun and one empty cartridge shell were recovered from the scene.

In a separate attack at Kwari village in the Giron Masa area of Shanga LGA, another gang of bandits abducted two residents — Suleiman and Yunwa Suleiman. However, a quick response from the Divisional Police Officer in Shanga, supported by army personnel and local vigilantes, led to a confrontation with the attackers.
“During the encounter, the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled into the forest with suspected gunshot injuries,” the police spokesperson stated.
Abubakar further revealed that police officers also arrested one Musa Muhammad at Takware village in Shanga for unlawful possession of ammunition. Items recovered from him included three rounds of live ammunition and 20 empty shells of 7.62×39mm calibre.
He confirmed that all rescued victims had been medically examined and reunited with their families.
“The Command remains resolute in its efforts to rid Kebbi State of criminal elements and ensure the safety of lives and property,” Abubakar assured.
He recalled that in October, the police neutralised three suspected Lakurawa bandits during a fierce gun battle in Dandi Local Government Area, following an attack on Gorun Yamma village
