*FG to Empower 1,000 Nigerians in Each Ward — Tinubu*
President Bola Tinubu has announced that the Federal Government plans to empower at least 1,000 Nigerians in each of the country’s 8,809 wards in 2026 as part of efforts to drive inclusive growth and reduce poverty.
Tinubu disclosed this in his New Year address on Thursday, stating that the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme would be accelerated to bring no fewer than 10 million Nigerians into productive economic activity.
According to the President, the programme will focus on grassroots economic empowerment through agriculture, trade, food processing, mining, and small-scale enterprise development.
“The new year marks the beginning of a more robust phase of economic growth, with tangible improvements in the lives of our people. We will stimulate local economies and expand opportunities at the grassroots,” he said.
Tinubu added that the initiative would be supported by continued investments in infrastructure, including roads, power, ports, railways, airports, healthcare, and education, stressing that all ongoing projects would continue without interruption.
He said the government’s strategy was to ensure that growth was not limited to macroeconomic indicators but translated into jobs, income, and improved quality of life for ordinary Nigerians.
