Famous Nigerian activist, Joe Okei  Odumakin has been honoured as the “most inspiring woman in human rights activism” in Nigeria (2018).

The Nigerian human rights icon was honoured  with the award at the official launching  of Duchess International Magazine  on Wednesday in Lagos.

Dr Odumakin was among the 17 distinguished awardees who were found worthy in deeds and forthrightness across the globe.

Odumakin was commended for advancing the cause of the girl-child campaign, women and the oppressed through firm advocacy , candour,  training  and awareness.

The vibrant and outspoken amazon thanked the organizers of the event for finding her worthy of such prestigious award. She however dedicated  the award to Miss Leah Sharibu who is being held captive by Boko Haram.

The publisher of Duchess International Magazine, Bolaji Odunuga said apart from the official launch of the magazine, the event was organised to recognise women who have distinguished themselves in various endeavours of life.

” We must appreciate, recognise and celebrate  women in our society who have combined the onerous task of raising great families alongside their trailblazing career as such a balanced-life style is uncommon in Nigeria today,” she said.

Dr Odumakin has over the time distinguished herself as an effeminate icon of altruistic excellence in different spheres of life. She has also contributed immensely in upholding  basic democratic  values in governance  and social discourse across the thirty-six states of Nigeria.
