The All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its Accommodation and Transportation Committee as part of preparations for the party’s 2026 National Convention.
The ruling party assured that its logistics arrangements will ensure a smooth and well-coordinated gathering of delegates and party leaders.
The committee is chaired by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, while the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, will serve as co-chairman.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Speaking during the event, Umahi stressed the importance of logistics to the success of a large political gathering such as the party’s national convention.
He thanked members of the committee for honoring the invitation despite their busy schedules, noting that their selection reflected the importance the party attaches to the assignment.
According to him, the committee’s responsibility goes beyond routine planning, as transportation and accommodation arrangements are critical to ensuring that delegates, party leaders, and special guests participate in the convention without disruption.
“Delegates must arrive safely and on time. Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated, and transportation between airports and the convention venue must be well coordinated,” he said.
Umahi added that when logistics run smoothly, conventions proceed seamlessly, but when they fail, even carefully planned events can encounter serious disruptions.
He explained that the committee’s terms of reference include coordinating hotel accommodation for delegates, officials and VIP guests, negotiating block bookings and managing room allocations.
Other responsibilities include organising airport reception, arranging shuttle services and fleet deployment, as well as coordinating the orderly arrival and departure of participants.
The committee will also establish a logistics coordination system with help desks and dispatch operations to ensure efficient movement throughout the convention period.
Umahi stressed that early preparation was essential to the success of the exercise, urging members to begin planning immediately in order to secure accommodation capacity and mobilise transportation resources.
“Time is of the essence. Early planning will enable us to secure adequate capacity, mobilise transportation resources and establish the operational coordination system required for the convention,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the committee would deliver on its mandate, citing the experience and leadership capacity of its members.
The minister added that the committee would work collectively to ensure that the party’s 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner.
