The All Progressive Congress (APC) Appeals Committee has upheld the decision by the party’s screening committee to consider Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki ineligible to contest the party’s governorship primary election.
In a press briefing held in Abuja on Saturday, the APC Appeals Committee said it was aligning itself with the APC screening committee’s inability to vouch for the authenticity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Certificate presented by Obaseki.
Shortly after the announcement was made, the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole said the party’s National Working Committee will now meet to deliberate on the screening report, in order to make a final decision.
Oshiomhole said the NWC will meet right away after which the press will be addressed.
MERIDIAN SPY reported Friday, the APC screening committee, led by its Chairman, Jonathan Ayuba, had screened out the governor because they could not confirm the authenticity of the Higher School Certificate he claimed but could not produce.
While presenting the committee’s report to the Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee, Ayuba said the document the governor produced only attested to his attendance
Obaseki however vowed not to appeal the decision and there are now strong indication that the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be his next destination to enable him secure his re-election bid.
