A team of researchers in the Faculties of Engineering and Medical Sciences, University of Benin UNIBEN have produced a clinically tested ventilator and presented to the Management of the University, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, as part of its contribution towards the fight against the scourge of corovanirus.
In a statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the institution, Benedicta Ehanire on Tuesday, the team of researchers who belong to the group known as The Initiative, led by Professor Kessington Obahiagbon, said the invention was in response to the ‘Vice-Chancellor’s challenge to various experts in the University to continue to strive to make relevant marks in order to place the institution among the very best and on a world class pedestal’.
Kessington explained that they took into consideration the peculiar circumstances of the country, hence the ventilator was produced to work without electricity for at least one hour and it is also designed to function in a dual mould for adults and children.
The elated Vice Chancellor however ‘thanked the team for the feat, especially for looking inwards in efforts to seek solutions to the pandemic’.
