Troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have intercepted three suspected terrorists in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The suspects were intercepted at about 2:14 p.m. on August 5 by troops of 73 Battalion, working with the CJTF, around the Kayamla general area of Konduga Local Government Area, according to a military source.

The suspects reportedly told the troops that they were repentant terrorists undergoing rehabilitation at the Bulumkutu Rehabilitation Centre and had travelled to the area to visit their farms.

However, during the operation, one of the suspects was allegedly found in possession of two rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition.

The suspect reportedly attempted to escape after the ammunition was discovered but was neutralised by the troops.

The other two suspects were arrested and are currently in military custody for further investigation.

The troops also recovered a bicycle, bottles of herbicide and other assorted items from the suspects.

The military has commenced further investigations to establish the identities, affiliations and activities of the suspects, as well as the circumstances surrounding their possession of the ammunition.

Authorities are expected to determine whether the suspects have any links to active terrorist networks operating in the region.
