Troops burst Terrorists Camps, Neutralise scores in Katsina, Zamfara
… intercept drugs in Ogun
In a series of well-coordinated operations, Nigerian Army troops deployed for Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations in Katsina and Zamfara States have dealt significant blows to terrorist activities in the region.
The troops had on March 29, 2024, conducted a successful raid on the den of notorious terrorist kingpin, Hassan Yantagwaye, in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Yantagwaye and his group, responsible for kidnappings and terrorising North West, were neutralized in the operation, with three terrorists eliminated and a substantial cache of arms and ammunition recovered.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, vigilant troops intercepted a vehicle carrying 441 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa in Molegede village, Odeda Local Government Area, on the same day.
The smugglers abandoned the vehicle upon sighting the troops, who subsequently seized both the vehicle and the illicit substances for further investigation.
In a separate engagement in Katsina State on March 30, troops engaged terrorists in fierce gun battles across several locations within Faskari Local Government Area.
The troops successfully neutralized eight terrorists and recovered three locally fabricated guns, military uniforms, and stolen grains.
Similarly, troops conducting night patrols in Ebonyi State on April 31 encountered armed Effium militias along Urban Effium in Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the militias in combat, resulting in the capture of one armed militia fighter. An AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62mm Special Ammunition were also recovered.
The Nigerian Army, led by Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the populace. These operations underscore the army’s determination to rid the nation of terrorists and insurgents, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
The bravery and dedication of the troops involved in these successful operations have been commended by the Chief of Army Staff, who lauded their efforts in safeguarding the nation against threats to peace and security.
