The Defence Headquarters has condemned in strong terms the attack on troops of Operation UDO KA deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, Abia State.
The attack, which was carried out by IPOB/ESN terrorists, yesterday while enforcing ‘sit-at-home’ to mark Biafra Day resulted in the tragic loss of five military personnel.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, in a statement described the attack as a “dastardly act” and vowed that the military would retaliate with fierce determination.
“We will bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat,” he said.
According to him, the troops, who were deployed to maintain peace and protect citizens, were ambushed by the terrorists, who traveled in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from surrounding built-up areas.
He said the attack caught the troops off guard, resulting in the loss of five precious lives.
The Defence Headquarters spokesman reiterated that the lifeline of the terrorist is the people and has called on the public to support the military in the fight against terrorism.
“Winning the war without the support of the people is close to impossible,” said Major General Buba.
He said an investigation into the incident is currently underway while also proved that military will do everything in its power to protect the nation and its citizens from the threat of terrorism.
