Nigerians Have the Right to Bear Firearms – Femi Falana replies Army Chie
Human Rights activist, Femi Falana has declared that the constitution guarantees every Nigerian to bear firearms under the Firearms Act, chapter 146, laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1990
He made this known while reacting to the recent killings in Plateau State, on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily, monitored by Meridian Spy earlier today.
Falana however, noted that any Nigerian willing to own an arm must apply and be granted license, under the same firearm act.
Falana added that someone who has already been convicted, or persons with bad temperament are not allowed to own firearms under the law.

He said that the right to life is sacrosanct, and every Nigerian has the right to defend himself when his or her life is threatened.
The human rights activist also said that it is the right of the government to defend the lives and properties of the citizens, but when the government fails in these responsibilities, the resultant effect is usually the citizens defending themselves through any means possible.
He maintained that it is not enough that the national assembly only summon the service chiefs, but enact a legislation to empower the police with the requite intelligence gathering capacity to curb the unfortunate killings across the country.
Falana particularly expressed dismay that no suspect has so far been arrested since the Plateau massacre, which occurred on the eve of last year’s Christmas festivity
