2027: APC Celebrates Okowa, Sheriff’s Defection

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially welcomed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and the former governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa into its fold.

The party described the governor’s decision—as well as the defection of top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Governor and 2023 PDP Vice Presidential candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa—as a significant and heartening development.

The APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), under the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, expressed elation at what it called “a momentous political shift,” which also includes the movement of senior government officials, members of the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councilors, and a large number of PDP members into the ruling party.

In a statement signed today by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party assured all defectors of its warmest embrace, promising cooperation, inclusion, and full accommodation into the APC family.

“Our great Party welcomes this important development and assures the Governor and incoming leaders and members of Delta PDP of our fullest cooperation and accommodation in the APC family,” the statement read.

Morka further noted that the inclusion of Delta’s political heavyweights into the party would boost the state’s role in driving the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

He emphasized that the move not only fortifies the APC in Delta State but also signals a broader national momentum for unity, development, and progress.

“With this move, coming on the heels of steady decamping of PDP leaders and members across the state to APC, including members of Delta Unity Group in Ika federal constituency, we are delighted that Delta state, now an APC state, stands poised to contribute maximally to the success and realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and to the enduring good and prosperity of Deltans and all Nigerians”, Morka added.

The defection of Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa—two of PDP’s most influential figures in the South-South—is seen by analysts as a political masterstroke with far-reaching implications ahead of future elections.

As jubilant supporters gathered across parts of Delta State to mark the defection, party insiders say preparations are underway to formally receive the governor and his entourage in a grand rally expected to be attended by top APC leaders from across the country.

With this latest development, Delta State’s political narrative appears headed for a dramatic rewrite—under a new banner and with new expectations
