Manchester City’s title hopes are in trouble again as they face likely points deduction or expulsion from the English Premier League (EPL) over allegations of breaking financial rules.
A Premier League statement issued on Monday afternoon confirmed that “Manchester City have been charged with numerous breaches of financial rules following 4-year investigation.”

“Possible sanctions if found proven include points deductions or even expulsion from the league,” The Times report says.
The club has however rejected the allegations, calling for a further probe by an Independent body.
Manchester City’s statement on the story read in full:
“Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.
The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an Independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position. As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all.”
