Founder of Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC), formerly known as, Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare has announced that the doors of his church may remain closed till the coronavirus pandemic is over, despite the Federal Government’s decision to lift ban on worship centres.
The former vice presidential candidate stated this at the second edition of the virtual 3Gs – Guys, Girls and God – session of the CGCC Legacy Youth Fellowship.
The CGCC pastor recalled the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s prediction regarding the virus, that August will be the month the number of cases will peak in the state and in Nigeria.
He stated that he is not in a rush to reopen a building when services can be done virtually and more people can be reached with the “word of truth”.
Pastor Bakare added that “government cannot shut the church but only a building.”
He made reference to the Biblical Noah, who spent 150 days in an ark, sent out the raven to check if the flood has dried up.
“Noah was on a lockdown for 150 days. Noah was not trying to prove his anointing by coming out to swim in the flood,” he said.
Additionally, recalling the experience of a US choir which met for rehearsals and recorded transmission of the COVID-19 disease among over 40 of its members and deaths, Pastor Bakare concluded, “we are not opening till the coast is clear.”
