Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has directed his deputy, commissioners and members of his inter-ministerial committee on coronavirus to self-isolate, after COVID-19 results of family of late Commissioner for Environment in the state, Dr. Solomon Ogunji came back positive.
Ogunji who was also a member of the state COVID-19 Committee before his death on May 24, was suspected to have died of hypertension.
However, in a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information, Okeiyi Kalu, and made available to newsmen on Monday in Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu, following the confirmation of positive test results of the late commissioner’s family, directed all those who might have recently come in contact with him to go into isolation and undergo COVID-19 test as a necessary protocol to prevent a further spread of the virus.
“Gov. Ikpeazu, who is still in mourning will also subject himself to all other necessary protocols as he has directed his cabinet members, including the Deputy Governor, to do,” Kalu’s statement partly reads.
“We wish to call on all Abians to continue to observe relevant regulations issued by the government and health authorities to stem the spread of the disease.”
