The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his opponent in the Allied Congress Party, ACPN, have signed the peace accord ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The candidates in respective visits on Wednesday signed the accord at the office of the National Peace Committee in Abuja having missed out on Tuesday based on some communication lapses.
The PDP flagberaer. Mr Atiku Abubakar while signing the accord expressed readiness for a free and fair election in 2019. The former APC presidential aspirant also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the pact ahead of the 2019 elections. Mr Atiku however went further to urge the president to sign the amended Electoral Act into law in order to accentuate his sincerity for a free and fair election.
Mr Atiku was accompanied to the National Peace Committee office by his running mate, Peter Obi, the National chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus, and a former governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel, among others.
In her remarks, Obi Ezekwesili also urged the president to sign the amended Electoral Act as that would be the only way to prepare ahead for a free and fair election in 2019.
The National Peace Accord is convened by some illustrious Nigerians and headed by former Head of State, Abusalam Abubakar.
