Lagos govt impounds vehicles on Berger Bridge
The Ministry of Transportation, in collaboration with the Lagos State Taskforce, has impounded some commercial vehicles allegedly impeding traffic along the Berger Bridge.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, confirmed this in a statement on Tuesday by Mrs Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the ministry.
Osiyemi explained that all apprehended bus drivers and their impounded vehicles would face penalties in accordance with the State Traffic Law (2018).
“The ministry, in collaboration with the Lagos taskforce, conducted an enforcement exercise to clear the bridge of commercial vehicles indiscriminately parked along the corridor.
“The enforcement was in response to the noncompliance of bus drivers at the Berger Bridge.
“The operation followed multiple warnings to bus drivers to desist from using the road infrastructure as an unauthorised garage/park, which has turned the stretch of the bridge into a gridlock point and impeding smooth vehicular movement,” he said.
Osiyemi emphasised that the state government would not tolerate the disregard of repeated warnings, reiterating that the State Traffic Laws must be strictly complied with by all road users in the state.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the step, which he said would be consistently monitored, would serve as a deterrent to others.
He said the state government would remain steadfast in its commitment to ensuring orderliness on Lagos roads
