Tax Reform is Here to Stay, Says Tinubu
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to overhauling Nigeria’s tax system, emphasizing that the proposed new tax reform bill currently before the National Assembly will be passed into law.
Speaking during his first presidential media chat on Monday evening, Tinubu highlighted the importance of modernizing Nigeria’s tax framework to align with current economic realities.
“Tax reform is here to stay,” Tinubu declared. “We cannot continue to do what we were doing yesterday in today’s economy. The essence of these tax reform bills is to eliminate the lingering influence of colonial rule on Nigeria’s economy and to create a structure that fosters growth, inclusivity, and sustainability.”
The President acknowledged the ongoing public debate surrounding certain aspects of the bill. He assured Nigerians that the government is open to constructive criticism and will address contentious provisions through amendments where necessary.
“We understand the concerns raised by stakeholders regarding specific clauses in the bill,” Tinubu said. “Rest assured, we are committed to making the necessary adjustments to ensure the reforms are fair, practical, and beneficial to all Nigerians.”
