Defence Chief deploys Special Operations to destroy Lakurawa
In a major development in the fight against terrorism, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi States to crush the notorious Lakurawas Sect.
The deployment, which is part of the ongoing Operation FOREST SANITY III (CHASE LAKURAWAS OUT), aims to consolidate the successes achieved in the precursor operation and bring a decisive end to the activities of the Lakurawas Sect.
Addressing the troops on December 13, 2024, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose, General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Operation FASAN YAMMA, on behalf of the Theatre Commander Operation FANSAN YAMMA,Major General Oluyinka Soyele charged the troops to ensure the total destruction of the Lakurawas sect.
He enjoined them to be proficient, professional and abide by the rules of engagement as well as the protection of citizens right during operations.
The troops, carefully selected and trained for this mission, are expected to demonstrate exceptional professionalism in flushing out the Lakurawas. As General Ajose noted, Nigerians are counting on their ability to rest before the region.
Prior to the deployment of the Brigade, troops of the 8 Division under Operation FANSAN YAMMA had conducted precursor and shaping operations in several areas, including Rumji Dutse East of Sarma, Tsauna, and Bauni.These operations resulted in the destruction of about 22 camps, neutralization of several members of the sects, and recovery of 4 rifles, 409 PKT 7.62mm NATO rounds, and 94 7.62mm special rounds ammunition.
The deployment of the Special Operations Brigade is expected to provide an added impetus in frustrating the activities of the bandits and restoring normalcy to the affected communities and the North West region as a whole.
