President Tinubu Promises to Unveil Corruption Under Emefiele’s CBN
In a speech on the 63rd anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, President Bola Tinubu promised to unveil corruption at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
He said that his special investigator would soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences.
Tinubu also said that he was committed to reforming the Nigerian economy and improving the lives of all Nigerians.
He announced a provisional wage increment for low-grade workers, increased investment in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, and an expansion of cash transfer programs to an additional 15 million vulnerable households.
On security, Tinubu said that he would continue to accord the highest priority to the safety of the people. He said that inter-service collaboration and intelligence sharing had been enhanced, and that the Service Chiefs had been tasked with rebuilding the capacities of the security services.
“I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway. A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences. Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.
“Wise tax policy is essential to economic fairness and development. I have inaugurated a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve the efficiency of tax administration in the country and address fiscal policies that are unfair or hinder the business environment and slow our growth,” he said.
