Troops Kill Boko Haram Kingpin Malam Jidda, Dozens of Fighters in Yobe
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized a notorious Boko Haram/ISWAP commander, Malam Jidda, along with scores of his fighters during coordinated air and ground offensives in Ngazalgana, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Military authorities confirmed that the high-value target, who was identified as the Ameer of Ngorgore and Malumti, was killed on June 9 during a precision offensive backed by the Nigerian Air Force component operating under Operation Hadin Kai.
According to a statement signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, the operation was executed following credible intelligence on terrorist movements within the volatile Timbuktu Triangle, a known stronghold for Boko Haram factions.
“During the operations in Ngazalgana, troops made contact with the terrorists and subdued them with superior firepower, resulting in the killing of Malam Jidda. Several other terrorists fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.
The joint operations further extended into the Timbuktu Triangle where troops, acting on additional intelligence, launched a snap ambush from another axis, engaging a fleeing band of fighters.
He said the encounter led to the elimination of several insurgents and the recovery of assorted weapons and logistics equipment.
Recovered items include AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, ammunition, rocket-propelled grenade tubes, hand grenades, hand-held radios, and other combat essentials often used in coordinated terrorist attacks.
In a related development, continued search and mop-up operations around Mallamfatori in Abadam LGA — where a previous assault neutralized numerous insurgents — have yielded further discoveries of terrorists’ corpses and arms stockpiles, indicating the depth of damage inflicted by Nigerian forces in recent weeks.
The Theatre Command reiterated its resolve to sustain pressure on remaining terrorist enclaves, stating that the latest offensives underscore “the effectiveness of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts and the commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-East.”
This development comes amid growing calls for accelerated clearance operations across the Lake Chad Basin and Sambisa axis, where remnants of the terror group are believed to be regrouping.
Operation Hadin Kai has recently intensified its air reconnaissance and ground patrols across major flashpoints in Borno and Yobe, with support from local vigilantes and intelligence units.
As of press time, the military says exploitation efforts are ongoing, and fleeing insurgents are being tracked across the region.
