Security operatives in Saudi Arabia have arrested two women believed to be the wife and mother of Ado Aliero, one of Nigeria’s most wanted bandit leaders, while they were performing Hajj.
Sources familiar with the case, as reported by Daily Trust, revealed that the arrests were part of an intelligence-led operation targeting a network of fugitives linked to the violent insurgency in Northwest Nigeria.
The women were reportedly apprehended in Medina, where they had been living under assumed identities.
A trending video circulating online shows the duo sitting among pilgrims in the holy city.
Ado Aliero is notorious for orchestrating mass kidnappings and violent attacks across Zamfara and neighboring states. His criminal network is believed to have local and international support, raising concerns about the extent of banditry financing.
Nigerian security agencies are working closely with their Saudi counterparts as investigations continue. Though the identities and specific roles of the arrested women have not been officially confirmed, they are believed to hold valuable intelligence on Aliero’s movements and funding channels.
In a related development, the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested suspected kidnap kingpin Sani Galadi at Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto. Galadi was detained during a screening for pilgrims en route to Saudi Arabia.
This arrest followed that of another wanted kidnapper at the Hajj camp in Abuja, reflecting ongoing efforts by Nigerian security agencies to combat kidnapping and terrorism.
A security source confirmed the arrests and said that Galadi is currently in custody, cooperating with investigations and will face trial once inquiries are completed
