A war of words has erupted between the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, over the future of their parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lamido, while delivering a keynote address at the PDP congress held at the Aminu Kano Triangle in Jigawa, predicted a looming split within the APC, claiming that Ganduje and other defectors from the PDP would soon return to the opposition party.

According to him, the APC’s internal contradictions, caused by divergent ideologies among its members, would soon lead to its disintegration.

“I’m confident that all those who left the PDP will return, including Ganduje, because very soon, the APC will burst and split into factions,” Lamido declared. “Within six months, all those who defected to the APC will come back, and the PDP will rise with full force to wrest power in 2027.”

He urged PDP faithful not to be discouraged by recent defections to the APC, attributing them to political intimidation and harassment.

But in a swift response, Dr. Ganduje dismissed Lamido’s claims as baseless and illogical. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and described the PDP as a “failing opposition” on the brink of extinction.

“Rather than me returning to the PDP, it is Sule Lamido we will soon receive into the APC,” Ganduje stated. “The PDP is already dead, and by the end of 2025, it will be no more.”

Ganduje emphasized that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC continues to grow stronger, attracting key political figures from across the country and consolidating its position ahead of 2027.

He advised Lamido to focus on resolving the PDP’s internal crises instead of making what he called “unfounded speculations.”

“The APC remains united, focused, and committed to delivering good governance to Nigerians,” the statement concluded.

With both political heavyweights trading verbal blows, the 2027 elections are already stirring intense rivalries, setting the stage for a fierce political battle in the coming months.
