Why We Arrested VDM After Several Summons- EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest and detention of Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan following multiple petitions alleging his involvement in serious financial crimes.
In a statement released by the Commission obtained by Entertainment Digest,VDM had been invited several times to respond to the allegations, but he reportedly ignored all summons sent to his known addresses and communication channels.
The EFCC described the accusations against him as “grave” and said they could not be disregarded.
The agency emphasized that VDM’s arrest was based solely on the weight of the allegations and his failure to honor repeated invitations, not in response to what it described as “unguarded attacks” by Otse against the Commission’s operations.
“While such conduct is condemnable, his arrest was not informed by such attacks,” the EFCC stated, adding that a relevant law enforcement agency will address those issues separately.
In accordance with legal procedure, the EFCC obtained a Remand Order to hold Otse in custody while investigations continue. The suspect has been granted administrative bail and will be released once all bail conditions are met.
The Commission acknowledged the public interest surrounding the case and reiterated its commitment to transparency and fairness. “The EFCC should be allowed to do its job without fear or favour,” the statement read. It assured that charges would be filed as soon as investigations are completed.
