FCT Police Arrest Couple, 6 Others Over Theft
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested eight suspects, including a husband-and-wife duo, in connection with the theft of three vehicles in Abuja and Lagos. The arrests were made by operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad and other police units between April 19 and April 28, 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the first breakthrough occurred following the theft of a gold Toyota Corolla (registration number ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat on April 19.
“Our operatives arrested one Yusuf Yunusa in connection with the incident, and further investigation led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, in Kwali Area Council on April 25,” she said.
SP Adeh revealed that Blessing confessed to playing an active role in the thefts. “She admitted to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband used to steal vehicles. She also confessed to creating distractions at the scene to aid her husband’s criminal activities,” the police spokesperson stated.
In a separate incident on April 28, the police responded to a report from a car buyer in Life Camp who raised concerns about a black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (registration number AAA 07 KA) he had purchased. “Upon investigation, the vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen from Lekki, Lagos,” SP Adeh confirmed.
She added that five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen—were arrested in connection with the stolen Mercedes-Benz. “The suspects confessed to stealing the car from their employer and transporting it to Abuja for resale,” she said.
Another case involved a missing unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure and its driver, George Idung, who worked for one Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza. “Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives from the Mabushi Division tracked the suspect to Eket LGA in Akwa Ibom State, where he was arrested while attempting to sell the vehicle,” SP Adeh disclosed.
All eight suspects are in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. SP Adeh quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, urging residents “to install tracking devices in their vehicles, avoid isolated parking spaces, and ensure proper verification of ownership before purchasing used cars.”
