Ganduje, Ex-Governor Yahaya Bello Welcome AMAC Chairman into APC
In a dramatic show of political strength, the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a major rally in Abuja on Thursday, welcoming a wave of high-profile defections from the opposition, signaling its intent to take full control of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dubbed the “Abuja Unity Rally,” the event, held at the Old Parade Ground, saw the defection of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) Chairman, Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, his councilors, and thousands of their supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP). The move represents a significant power shift across all six area councils of the FCT.
The defectors were received by top APC figures including National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, and other influential leaders from the North Central region.
Addressing a massive crowd, Ganduje emphasized the strategic importance of the FCT, asserting that “over 60 percent” of its residents now back the ruling party. He proclaimed APC’s readiness to secure the FCT’s Senate seat, House of Representatives positions, and control of all area councils.
“With this realignment,” Ganduje declared, “APC is on course to dominate the FCT politically. We have AMAC’s chairman and his full team on our side, and we’re witnessing a flood of support from other area councils—Bwari, Kuje, Abaji, Kwali, and Gwagwalada.”
Minister of Special Duties, Hon. Zaphania Jisalo, hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his inclusive leadership, affirming the President’s commitment to empowering the people of Abuja. Minister of State for the FCT, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, also urged residents to continue their support for the APC-led administration.
Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello rallied the party faithful with a bold declaration: “There’s no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027. President Tinubu will be re-elected to continue his good work.”
He called for unity within APC ranks to ensure the party’s dominance, vowing that the broom symbol will soon sweep through every council in the FCT.
