Kano Hunters Arrested in Edo not Herdsmen – Police Clarify
The Edo State Police Command has clarified the arrest of four armed men from Kano State, identifying them as hunters and not herdsmen, contrary to social media reports that sparked fear and misinformation.
In a statement issued Saturday night, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, said the four individuals were intercepted by operatives of the Edo Security Network upon their arrival in the state and were found in possession of various weapons.
“The Edo State Police Command is aware of misinformation on social media that four herdsmen armed with guns were arrested at a hotel and handed over to the police,” the statement read. “However, those apprehended were hunters, not herdsmen.”
The suspects, identified as Yusuf Abdulkarim, Mujaheed Garba, Shittu Idris, and Jamilu Habibu, were found with three Dane guns, six empty cartridges, three half-filled cartridges, four cutlasses, and two daggers. They were intercepted at Americanus Hotel on Osemwenkhae Street, near Ramat Park in Orogbeni Quarters, and handed over to officers at the Ikpoba Hill Police Station.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the men, who are from Doguwa in Kano State, were en route to Uvbe community in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
The Police Commissioner, CP Monday Agbonika, urged the public to refrain from spreading false information capable of inciting panic or tension in the state. He assured residents that thorough investigations are underway to ensure public safety.
This incident follows a similar report in recent weeks, prompting authorities to emphasize vigilance and accurate reporting in matters of public security
