Constituents Defy Kogi Governor’s Order, Troop Out to Receive Natasha
The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has defied an order by Governor Usman Ododo, who had banned her from moving in a convoy and holding rallies in the state.
On Monday, Governor Ododo imposed restrictions on convoys, social gatherings, and later declared a curfew, citing security concerns. However, on Tuesday, Natasha circumvented the restrictions by arriving in her constituency via helicopter, where a large crowd had gathered to welcome her for a Sallah celebration rally.
Addressing her supporters, Natasha declared, “Nobody and nothing can stop me from coming home. I’m an Ebira woman; this is my land. I’m the daughter of the late Jimoh Abdul Akpoti. I know my roots; I’m not a bastard, and I’m not afraid of anybody.” Her defiant words resonated with the crowd, who cheered in support.
The state government had justified its restrictions on security grounds, but critics argued that it was a deliberate attempt to suppress Natasha’s growing political influence. In the days leading up to the rally, security operatives had barricaded major roads leading to the venue, heightening tension among residents.
Despite these obstacles, Natasha’s decision to fly in by helicopter not only bypassed the government’s restrictions but also reinforced her resilience and determination. Her bold move sent a strong message that she would not be intimidated or silenced.
With her supporters energized by her defiance, the event marked a significant moment in Kogi politics. Whether the government will escalate its actions against her remains to be seen.
