National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has been urged to intervene in the growing cases of military attacks on electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria, following a recent incident at the Eko Electricity Distribution Company’s (EKEDC) substation in Badagry.
The attack, where critical power infrastructure waas reportedly vandalized and staff members were abducted by security operatives.
Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, while reacting to the the attack on March 14 at the Eko Electricity Distribution Company’s (EKEDC) substation in Badagry.
He said during the attack, critical power infrastructure was vandalized, and staff members were reportedly abducted by security operatives.
Adelabu condemned the incident as “unacceptable,” stressing that such attacks undermine efforts to improve power supply and could have devastating consequences on the economy.
The minister has called on National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu to intervene and address the rising cases of military attacks on DisCos.
“The repeated targeting of power infrastructure and personnel by uniformed personnel, who are expected to protect national assets, is deeply troubling and raises serious concerns about discipline and accountability within our armed forces,” the minister stated.
He urged the NSA to ensure security agencies handle grievances lawfully rather than resorting to force and vandalism.
Several organization advocating for sustainable energy have condemned the attacks, calling for an impartial inquiry and prosecution of those responsible.
