Ribadu to El-Rufai: I Am Not Running for President in 2031
The National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has firmly dismissed claims by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, suggesting he harbors a presidential ambition for 2031.
Ribadu made it clear that his focus remains solely on national security and supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
Responding to El-Rufai’s comments in a media interview on Monday evening, Ribadu stated that while he would have preferred to ignore the remarks, he could not remain silent and risk misinterpretation.
However, he maintained that he would not engage in a public feud.
“I am too preoccupied with my current assignment to get into a media fight with Nasir El-Rufai or anyone else,” Ribadu said.
He further emphasized that despite repeated provocations, he has never spoken ill of El-Rufai out of respect for their past association and their families.
He urged the public to disregard any speculation regarding his alleged 2031 presidential ambition.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I want to put it on record that I have never discussed running for president in 2031 with anybody. All my focus and energy are geared completely towards the advancement of Nigeria and the success of the President Tinubu administration,” he said.
Ribadu also called on El-Rufai to allow him to focus on his responsibilities, just as he refrains from interfering in the former governor’s affairs.
