Officials of Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone A, have sealed a petrol station in the Ajilete area of Ogun for allegedly being used for smuggling petroleum products to Benin Republic.

The operatives also intercepted N30.3 million worth of petrol from suspected smugglers in Lagos and Ogun states.

Two vehicles used by the smugglers for their illicit activities were also impounded during a weeklong sting operation around Ajilete and Imeko areas in Ogun State.

The National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, Comptroller Kehinde Ejibunu, who made the disclosure while showcasing some of the seizures, said the petrol station had been handed over to the relevant government agency for prosecution.

He disclosed that their investigation revealed that staff of the petrol station were dispensing petrol into plastic kegs for onward movement to the neighbouring Republic of Benin.

“Today marks yet another success recorded by Operation Whirlwind Zone A Lagos/Ogun axis, under the Command of Assistant Comptroller MI Bello.

“This operation has yielded positive results in ensuring the availability of fuel in the various filling stations across the country.

“We will continue to ensure that all illegal routes of smuggling of PMS leading to our neighbouring countries are blocked by this operation,” he stated.
